These days, many students are prone to do their studying due to their hectic schedules. Some even say studying alone is much more effective because you can avoid wasting time arranging plans to study with their academic companions. However, I believe studying in a group of students is very beneficial for two main reasons. Students can generate better results and are more likely to develop social skills by cooperating with other students.
First of all, studying in a group of students may help them study more effectively, which eventually leads to good grades. Many students in modern society are anxious about other students getting better scores than themselves. Thus, students consider their friends as a competitor and rarely share useful information. However, in the end, those students will be less competitive because they are inclined to be narrow-minded and have none of valuable information aside from their own. To illustrate this point, when I was in grade seven, I made a study group where any students can tutor each other. At first, it was very irritating to arrange the studying time with group members. However, while we were helping each other, I realized it was easier for me to grasp some basic principles from my friends than the teachers. Also, by teaching others, I could also understand the unfamiliar concepts and principles a lot better. As a result almost all of my group members were able to get good grades.
Furthermore, students can foster social skills by studying in a group of students. It is often said that it is distracting for students to study with their friends because they cannot control their attempt to chat. However, if only they can control themselves a little bit, talking can even be helpful for them. For example, an academic research clearly shows that studying in a group made a big change in Seoul middle school. Before they did the program of studying in a group, friendship among classmates was not built in individual students. However, after they began the program, students feel that they have very nice and strong friendship between their classmates. Even teachers recognized their collective effort and cooperation, and students are treating each other more nicely than before. In this regard, studying in a group of students is necessary in order to make students’ relationship better.
To summarize, I definitely believe that students should study with their friends to study more effectively and build friendship. Studying in a group of students helps them academically and mentally.
