Weather government spend more money on improving roads and highways is controversial issue ongoing debate. Many people agree with improving roads due to many advantages. I accept this idea, however, I think that improving roads not outweigh benefits of imporving public transportation. There are many reasons why I hold on but I would explore only a few primary ones here.
To start with, upgrading public transportation is able to save time and money. No one can deny that driving ones car is very expensive. Using public transportation is relatively cheap. Just having one doller, people can use buses or subways. It is why many commuters use buses or subways. Moreover, tansportation makes it possible for people to save time. In many cases, people have experiences to waste time in a car over one hour due to traffic jam. However, if people use subways, they can not waste time. A article published in the Korea Times reveals that more than 80 percent of commuters using public transportation save time and money more three times than those using a car.
Furthermore, upgrading higways have negative effects on the environment. One of the main culprits of air pollution is waste gas of vehicles. If governments spend more money on improving roads, it is possible for people to drive their car more often because of convinence. These consquence leads people to have a serious problems namely a respiratory disease. According to recent study conducted by the Korean National Research Center, It proves that the more using public transportation residents are, the less having a chance to get respiratory problems they are.
Last, but not the least, public transportation is able to use everyone. As long as people use highways, they need a car and a driving licence. However, as anyone knows, there are many people who do not have driving licence and a car especially chilren and teenagers. Since not using highways, they have a troble to moving places.
To summarize, The reasons mentioned above determined me to draw a conclusion that governments should spend more money on improving public transprotation.
