According to the listening, the lecturer alleges that three theories on extinction of Harrapans are not reliable ideas. This casts doubts on the reading passage’s claim that Harappan were wiped out due to three reasons: invasion of other tribes, natural disaters and outbreak in community.
Firstly, Harappans did not wiped out due to battles against other societies. Since, no remains which prove Harappans were died out while battling against other people were excavated. Also, other many cities were existed in the same area. This goes against to the reading passage’s assistment that invasion of other tribes occred Harappans to be disappeared all of sudden.
Secondly, although climates in Harappan were arid, Harappans could suvived in no matter how the weather was. Even if other nations, especially Egyptians and mesopotamians, had same climates, they were thrived at that time. This challanges the reading script where it says natural disters especially long period of drought wiped ot Harappans.
Thirdly, Harappans did not disappeared due to the epidemic, especially contaminated water. This is because, they had facilities which refine water and harappans could drink purified water. This contradicts the reading passage’s argument that severe diseases around the society have negative effect on Harappan civilization.
