Secondly, the lecturer goes on to say that chimps cannot create much different sounds. He explains that even if birds can make vocal sound, they cannot do as human do. This explanation counters the writer’s viewpoint that chimps can make meaningful and diverse vocal sound responding to something.
Finally, the lecturer mentions that structure and length of sentences that chimps can speak is are limited. He argues that they make a lot of mistakes when they create sentences, whereas human does not. Besides, human can employ sentences which have great length and complex structures when they speak. This argument casts doubt on the reading passage’s assertion that chimps can combine symbols to form sentences and their combining ability is the same as that of kindergarten children.
