) A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.
Have you been in a place where lots of factories are run? When I think of it, I am usually reminded of a polluted area where people may easily become sick. Although there are some benefits of having factories around my community such as developing the quality of a city and becoming a better known place, some crucial disadvantages far dominate the benefits that building a factory might bring. Mainly, there are two reasons why I disagree with the suggestion of building a large factory in the community.
First, as most people can expect, a large factory brings bad consequences of pollution to the community. In order to make the best profits, large factories emit unrefined emissions into the air for most of a day. This does not only pollute the environment in the community, but also sickens the people. Who would like to live in a city that affects people’s health badly? If it happens in my community, the people would try to avoid it and look for a different place to live. As an extreme case, contaminated water from factories might cause a serious disease and extinguish animals in the environment.
Secondly, there would be a bad traffic jam and noises that disturb people’s lives. For an example, I have lived in a city which is surrounded by huge factories that employ many workers. For most of a day, the road used to be full with cars and trucks that tried to get to the factories. Since hundreds of works rushed into the road, it was very inconvenient and hard to get out of the place. Additionally, those cars and people’s raving made so much noise so that I often could not concentrate on my studying. I remember it as a horrible experience that I do not want to experience again.
Without factories, modern society would have not developed as much as it is now. In fact, in many aspects, people should be thankful for what factories have contributed to the society. However, there are unavoidable factors that factories might affect the society badly. As far as the people’s health and safety in my community are concerned, I strongly disagree with the suggestion of building a factory in my community.
