The reading passage asserts that the superstore poses many advantages to customers and the society; however, the lecturer is skeptical about the passage, by stating that the store is not always beneficial as stated in the passage.
First of all, the lecturer argues that the superstore gives inconvenience to customers. The reading passage explains that the customers are able to enjoy its convenience. In opposition to this hypothesis, the lecturer indicates that retailers around the superstore have to change from specialized products to standardized one due to the influence of the superstore. For this reason, customers who want to buy specialized goods cannot buy them.
Next, the speaker claims that not all products are sold at a lower price. The article explains that the buyers can have an access to buy cheap products at the superstore. On the contrary, the lecturer quoted the study in order to demonstrate that key items that are advertised were discounted 13 percent at maximum, whereas other products such as cigarettes and cokes did not have considerable difference in terms of the price.
Finally, the professor does not agree with the reading that the superstore provides job opportunities to local people. However, the lecturer points out that this employment is not as noticeable as people expected. For example, studies have shown that 100 jobs were created after the superstore opened. Nevertheless, local businesses that were present before the arrival of the superstore were discontinued 5 years later.
