It is often said than university athletic department should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries. Some people may be opposed to this statement because reading a variety of books would increase students' knowledge base. However, I agree with this idea in that students can stay healthy as well as sports activities foster students' social skills.
First of all, students are able to stay in shape through physical education. It is evident that regular exercise strengthens the immune system and, therefore, helps prevent sickness. Moreover, experts have demonstrated that physically weak students often skipped their classes and had a much shorter attention span. This reflects that doing exercise can enhance students' attention span and learning ability.
Second, sports activities facilitate students' social skills. This is because they require collective effort and cooperation. From my personal experience, I played soccer game when I was in middle school. Before we played soccer game, we were not really united. However, after we played it, I felt a sense of cooperation and belonging. My personal experience illustrated my idea very well.
In conclusion, I believe that the same amount of funding as university libraries should go to university athletic departments because students can stay physically healthy and students' social skills can be fostered by sports activities. All in all, doing exercise allows students to stay healthy and develop valuable skills.
