It is often said that there will be no more energy left within 50 years. This is not surprising because people are wasting too much energy right now. To control this wasting phenomenon, the government is trying to increase the price of gasoline and electricity. However, I do not agree with the previous idea for the following two reasons. First, this policy cannot control people’s usage of the energy but to lead to increase economic gap. Also, wasting is a matter of people’s mind – not about the money.
To begin with, raising a price of the energy will just cause economic gap. The rich never cares about the money. They will just spend the energy as much as they want regardless of money. Even the poor have to use the certain amount of the energy to survive. Because the certain amount of energy cannot be lessen, increase price of it is not necessary. For example, I read a newspaper article in history section that even in depression periods of Korea, many companies, shops and even private houses never turned down the air-conditioner in summer or hitter in winter. People wore shorts during winter and sweater during summer.
In addition, the only way to conserve energy is to encourage people to realize by themselves. Some energy is being used without noticing. If people realize how much resources they are wasting, they will start to care about it. What the government can do is promoting the awareness of saving energy. To illustrate, according to the Korean ministry, almost every houses are spending 40% of the non-needed energy. This happened because people do not aware that they are consuming electricity, gas or gasoline. Also, many people are lack of knowledge how to save the energy. Therefore, the government should encourage people’s knowledge about an energy resource.
To conclude, to conserve energy such as gasoline or electricity, the government should try to improve people’s awareness – not elevating the price of the energy. This is because skyrocket of the energy price will do nothing but generate or aggravate economic gap among people.
