Sometimes it seems difficult to define what the main purpose of life is. Well, although there may not be a truely 'correct' answer to this question, considering the pursuit of happiness as one of the key measures of defining a successful life would be fairly reasonable. Based on this preassumtion, I strongly believe that the benefits of a flexible job, consisting of enough vacation time, far exceeds that of a high paying, labour-oriented job.
First of all, the free time can be used to develop one's competitiveness. In other words, if one is given with sufficient free time, they could devote themselves in learning and training. Considering that employees are more appreciated for their ability and creativeness than their laboriousness, this would definitely provide the employee with more competitiveness.
Another reason to support this opinion, is that free time will provide more opportunities for people to sit down, lean back, and take a look at the big picture. Once in a while we tend to forget, that life isn't just about money making. There truely are other values that will enhance the quality of life, and these value's are also very time consuming. Consider the intimate relationship with one's family and friends. A healthy relationship isn't just given, it has to be earned with serious dedication and devotion. Health, which could be enhance by reducing stress and allocating some time to workout, is also a value an important value to pursue.
Like the old saying, 'all work and no play makes john a dull boy', one should spend time to relax and enjoy once in a while in order to live a happy and successful life. Money could wait, but your beloved ones might not. Other values such as relationship and health are very vulnerable. They definately require more attention, considering the importance they possess in determining the quality of one's life. |
