As people live their life, they attain a lot of knowledge through their numerous experiences, and many among these experiences can be earned by reading books. It has been said that not everything that is learned is contained in books. I totally agree with these saying with two instances because not all knowledge is acquired or explainable by written words in books.
First of all, when you suppose to visit a country in which you are not familiar with, you will not be able to know every information of the country unless you finally visit and see how they are. I, as a person who loves traveling the world, think that it is almost impossible to prepare and know everything about a destined country with what I can find on books. To take an example of my experience in this winter, I was planning to go to the country of Bangladesh that I haven’t heard or been before; therefore I went to a bookstore and looked for every single book on Bangladesh and read them all from their religion to history before I went to the country. There, however, was a lot more things I saw when I was in this country than from books I read and I got to know that it would be too hard to express this country on a book.
In addition to the first reason above, swimming can be another example in that books cannot make a person swim right away without a practice. There is abundant quantity of books on swimming and some of them teach how to swim in four different ways; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly stroke. To illustrate, I made up my mind to develop my health by swimming; and that inspired me to pick up some books to know information of how to swim as much as possible before I go to a swimming pool. It seemed easy to swim in four ways but when I actually dove into the swimming pool and put what I had learned in the book to action, none of the four worked, so I had to practice for six months before I could finally swim in four ways.
To conclude, the saying ‘Not everything that is learned is contained in books.’ is right and undisputable since the books cannot teach people everything as I have mentioned above. It cannot neither inform every detail nor make anyone pro without practicing. There sure are enormous stuffs that you can gain from the books but it does not tell everything. |
