Most of people eager to have good friends, and by the term "good" they often think "similar." However, I insist that having different friends with you is much better than having friends with similarities, by following reasons.
First of all, from different types of friends, you can learn many things that you would have missed otherwise. For example, when you accompany with the friend whose hobby is painting while you play the guitar, than you might be able to get free lesson from him. Like this, hanging aroung different types of people as friends means you would have more chances to learn about the world without big effort.
In addition, comming along with different types of people also can broad your world to its edge. If you were surrounded by people who have same opinion and similar thought with you, you might make the common mistake to consider you're only right person in the world. To prevent this fault, it is important to be in others' shoes. The diverse type of friends will let you know your boundary, and this leads you to learn the diversity which becomes even more important nowadays.
The final point I hope to say is that the more differences you and your friend have, the more fun you would have. To some extent, the variety simply means the interest. You might get bored easily if you could expect every responses of your friend based on your pattern, which will never happen when you hang around the one who is just the different type.
To consider all of these supports above, I firmly belive that different friends are even better to have the similar types of friends with you. Those who have unusual hobbies, diverse background and different life experiences would provide you more opportunities to learn what is useful; new hobbies, understading about diverse culture, and even more fun. |
