It is often said that the telephone plays a significant role in people`s live because they can help people to easily communicate. However, I believe that television has had a greater influence on people`s live than the telephone has for two reasons: more reliable information and advertisements.
To begin with, advertisements are a powerful tool providing an image that people wish to become. It is an undeniable fact that most people have television and spend much time watching TV. Thus, ads through television lure people into buying product that people wish to imitate, and many of them would be no exception to its influence. Coming from my personal experience, one of my friends, Min Su, suddenly bought the latest cell phone with an MP3 and a digital camera function. He bought it after watching ads which showed a good-looking guy using his cell phone to talk to his sexy girlfriend, to listen to music, and to take great pictures. Although his last cell phone was still in a good condition, television`s ads led to him to purchasing that triggered him to buy something he may not have had interest in before. However, telephone does not have this function. This implies that had it not been for TV, he would not have splurged on products.
On top of that, TV gives people more believable information. This is because TV offers people to visualized images which allow people to understand more easily. In addition, this reliable image lead to people`s right judgement. For example, when I was young, through the telephone, my parents explained a situation that occurs nearby my parent`s house. Hurricanes swept my parent`s city, but they said that they was okay and it is a trifling event. However, it turned out to be a huge lie because with visualized image offered by TV, I knew it is a serious event. This shows that TV has more influence people`s live than the telephone has.
To conclude, TV plays a key role in people`s live because it brings people more reliable information and through ads, lures people.
For these two reasons considered, I firmly agree with the opinion that TV has had a greater impact on people`s live than the telephone has. |
