Is there more need for land to be left in its natural condition or is there more need for land to be developed?
My country, Korea, has a small land area which is smaller than one state in America. However, due to the increase in population and in order to meet demands of growing population, a huge part of the land has been developed for housing and industry. As a result, numerous natural ecosystems have been destroyed. The destruction of ecosystems is likely to create problems in the future. Therefore, Korea should leave the land in its natural conditions for children and animals.
To begin with, if people develop all the land in Korea to build houses or buildings in order to fulfill their current needs, the future generation, young children, could not have a sufficient amount of land to support themselves in the future. This is unreasonable and unfair for young children. Of course, it can be important to clear land to develop my country, but there are many other alternatives. For example, my country could buy land in countries where property cost is low and build buildings and houses. In that way, intensely focused population problem could be alleviated. Not only that, we can save land for the future generation.
Furthermore, human beings should leave the land for animals. Since the human existence, the environment has been severely damaged by human beings. Thus, many animal species became extinct or became endangered species. The deaths of various animals could have a negative influence on people's lives. For example, if pigs, which are staples of Korean diet, die out, how Korean people would survive? Human beings will find numerous alternatives, for example, changing their diet. However, this could result the food web to be broken. As a result, Koreans could extinct unless they immigrate.
Korea's land mass is smaller than British Columbia which is one of provinces in Canada. However, the population in Korea is as twice big as Canada's population. It is interesting. According to a recent study, Canadians' life span tend to be longer than Koreans, this suggests that a big piece of land could have provided relaxation and healthy life. Therefore, Korea should leave the environment alone to benefit from it.
