Some people might say that being the leader in a group provides many advantages, for example, leaders could do works in the way they want. However, being the leader of a group could involve numerous uninviting responsibilities, and leaders might have to take all the criticism when something goes wrong. Therefore, I personally believe that being a group member is much better than being the leader.
To begin with, the leader in a group might have to take all the responsibilities including unpleasant ones. Being responsible for everything could be taxing, and this could be stressful. To illustrate this point, last year, I was doing a project in a group, and I was nominated as the leader because I had the highest grades among group members. At first, I felt rewarded because every member participated enthusiastically. However, as time went by, members became heavily reliant on me. Therefore, I had to compensate the missing work as the leader. In the end, I finished the assignment by myself. It was stressful.
Furthermore, leaders have take the blame , when the work result is not gratifying. From my personal experience, when I was the leader in a group, only the minority of the members participated. I tried to persuade members who “goofed” around to work on the task, but they claimed that it is the leader's responsability to complete the project. Therefore, I finished on my own, and I accidently did the project incorrectly. I and members got D; consequently, members put all the blame on me, and even my teacher said the reason why the project is incorrectly finalized is due to the leader's inability to conduct effectively.
My experiences of being the leader in a group are unpleasant. Thus, I believe it is justifiable for me to possess negative perspectives toward being the "boss." Leaders might have to take unpleasant responsibilities and unwanted criticism. Therefore, working as a group member is much more pleasing.
