While the author of the reading passage argues that online survey research is better than traditional one, the lecturer opposes the reading's assertion with several counter views.
First of all, according to the reading passage, research based on the Internet is helpful because researchers can easily access a lot of people from different groups. On the contrary, the speaker mentions that sample from the people in the Internet can be a problem. The lecturer also states that since it is impossible to know the real characteristic of person who sends the data, researchers cannot guarantee whether samples are true or not.
Additionally, the reading then points out that it can save time because researchers don't have to go out for collecting data and they can do both collecting information and conducting the research at the same time. The professor, however, counters by stating that this new method may cost them more time than traditional one. He adds that since not all people would participate in those surveys, it would take more time to get enough reliable information.
Finally, the reading passage claims that it is financially efficient. On the other hand, the speaker insists that it can cause unexpected cost. According to him, since they need some incentive to motivate people to take part in the survey, they have to spend more than traditional one. |
