There has been an argument whether keeping old friends is more important than making new friends. As for me, I firmly believe that keeping old friends is more important because there are many more things to talk about with old friends and people usually feel comfortable to be with someone who they have known for a long time.
To begin with, people went through lots of events together if they have known each other for many years. Thus, they have a lot to talk about. I do understand that old friends are not as fresh as new friends. It however, seems to me that the benefits of old friends far outweigh the disadvantage. To exemplify what I mean, I have three old friends who I have known for more than ten years. I have felt never bored when I meet them. This is because they know almost all about me and went through every single thing together. I feel awkward when I do not know what to talk but it never can happen with them. This is one of the main reasons I vote for old friends.
In addition, I feel so comfortable to be with my old friends. As everyone knows, keeping old friends rather than making new friends is not always positive because my social connection could be limited, but in my opinion the advantages of old friends eclipse this slight disadvantage. Let me take my personal example. When something happens to me, I always meet my old friends and then, I feel cannot be more comfortable than this. When I talk to them, I just feel become happy no matter what happened. This is because they are familiar with me so I feel secure even if they just give me a hug instead of giving me advices. This is another reason why I think keeping old friend is more important.
Taking all these into account, keeping friends who have known for many years is more important because we will have a lot to talk about and never get bored. Moreover, it will make us feel comfortable to be with them. There is no doubt in my mind that old friend will benefit our life. |
