As the world is changing faster than ever before, those who are inflexible and afraid of change are less likely to succeed. Thus I agree that working at the same company for one's entire life is unrealistic. This is because lifetime employment decreases employees' productivities and prevent people from finding better-suited job for themselves.
To begin with, working at the same company for one's life decrease employees' productivities. This is because if people work at the same company too long, they often become weary of the same work and thus cannot do their best any more. A recent study showed that employees who have been working over 10 years produce 30 % less that employees who have been working under 3 years. This is because they become sick and tired of the same work, people, workplace atmosphere.
In addition, experiences gained form working in many different companies help people find right one for them. This is because they find that best utilizes their skills and challenges thier abilities. For instance, my sister have worked in more than 5 companies, from a huge connglomerate to a small company with 3 employees. Whenever she told my parents that she was going to switch companies, they were disappointed. However, she finally found her dream job at a company that suited her. If she have worked in one company, she would have not been able to find the right career for herself.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that it is impractical to work for the same company because it leads to lower productivities and prevents people from finding their best jobs. Although the stability of lifetime employment is appealing, it prevent people from truly growing in their professional lives. |
