In relationships with humans, being humorous is better than being serious. However, in school, to be specific to teachers, being strict and serious is much more efficient to control their students. This is because being strict is very effective to convey knowledge to students. Also, humorous teachers frequently spoil the atmosphere in classrooms.
First of all, strict and serious teachers can efficiently convey knowledge related with their classes to students. Most of students can not control themselves and thus being strict is needed for teachers to deal with them effectively. It can be important key to enable students to focus on studies. For example, my 3th teacher at my high school was so strict that we had to keep his many roles such as minimizing talk at break and staying for studying after classes. I was so stressed out due to his compulsory requirements but I was surprised by increased my cores every exams. As a result, I entered the university that I have wanted to go, so now I visited him every year to meet him.
Also, humorous teachers interfere classroom atmosphere. If teachers give their students interesting stories to make class atmosphere more humorous, students will be interested in not content of lessons but their funny or humorous stories. Also, this will make environment that students focus on talking with their classmates. For example, my 6th teacher in my elementary school wanted to be humorous teacher rather than authority teacher. So she tried to be friends with us by talking funny stories every classes. However, he seemed to cross over boundary need for teacher to maintain control over classroom. We had fun every class but she had to waste her valuable time on calming down us. |
