According to the reading passage, there are several rational explanations for red rain phenomenon in Kerala, India. However, in the lecture, the professor gives several reasons as rebuttal to the author's point. First, the reading insists that red rain contains the blood of bats, which had been destroyed by meteorological attacks, giving an evidence that shows the presence of cells containing bat DNA. The professor, however, regard this explanation absurd using an expert's suggestion. Amount of blood is needed to compose red rain but it is impossible for a lot of bats to be dead simultaneously. Also, no wings or bones have been found around Kerala. Second, the reading contends that volcanic eruption in the Philippines shoot clouds of dust, and rain mixed with dust appeared red. The professor casts doubt on this explanation because it is disproven. If eruption happened in the Philippines, red rain should take place in the Philippines. However, the phenomenon occurred nowhere else, including the areas between the Philippines and India, except Kerala. Last, the reading suggests that the industrial chemicals from local factories without filters mixed with moisture and turned red. However, the professor does not approve this explanation. He describes that there are not much industrial chemicals to produce red rain because there are just few factories in Kerala. Also, if factories are responsible, red rain should have occurred near the cities in which the factories are concentrated, not Kerala.
