Some people think that it is not okay to
use video games for children aged 5-8 as part of a lesson plan to increase
their interest in learning. However, in my opinion it is not bad for children
aged 5-8 to play video games in terms of increasing learning. There are two
reasons. First, playing video games make the children relieve stress. Second,
doing educational video games make the children increase the motive in
learning.
To begin with, children can relieve their
stress by doing video games. Having the outlet for stress has a meaning in
itself since it helps one regain energy and find the strength to go on.
Children nowadays have pressure not only physically but also mentally even
before entering the school. After playing video games, children will be able to
get back on track. To give an anecdote, my cousin aged 6 had a lot of stress
because of Engilsh kindergarten. There were lots of homework for young child
but he had to do homework because of the rule of kindergarten. One day, I gave
him a video game as a birthday present. As soon as I toss the game, he said
"horray" and gave a thank you message for me. He confessed to me that
he was so hard to do terrible homework and he wanted to rest with games. I was
so surprised that he felt agony like that even though he was too young. So I
thought video games is useful for young children who get stressed with studying
to relieve stress.
On top of that playing educational video
games, young children aged 5-8 can get motivated about learning. Suppose that
we have to study only by participating the class or reading a book with sitting
on a chair. Would it be possible to sustain the study during the whole life
time? It is highly doubtful. The only key to sustain the study would be to
enjoy the studying not just in front of the desk. The one way to enjoy study is
to play an educational video game. Especially aged 5-8 children have to be
motivated about new knowledge and have a mind that study is funny things.
Harvard university did research about the interest of learning for children who
do not enter the school yet. The result was so astounding. Children who did
play educational video games higher ratio of interest about learning than who
just studying in front of desk all day along. In this way, playing the
educational video game proved useful in learning.
To sum up, using video games aged 5-8
children is not bad in learning. Moreover, the games give the children a
variety of perspective in learning. In this regard, I firmly believe that video
games are good for children in many ways.
