Undoubtedly, activities play a significant role in people’s daily lives in many of the places where they work or play. Some people think that learning to play a sport or a musical instrument is the most beneficial to young, while others think that gaining practical work experience by having a part-time job or by volunteering is the most effective to young. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that getting pragmatic work experience by having a part-time job or by volunteering is the most useful way. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, doing a part-time job or volunteering allows young people to improve their sense of responsibility. Working for others or helping others requires many obligations such as managing time, abiding by rules, and respect others. When such obligations are fulfilled, they are likely to realize the importance of being responsible. For example, my youngest brother used to be lazy and selfish. However, he has changed little by little after he began to work at a fast-food restaurant after school. He realized that his active participation at work helped him work well with others, while his laziness could negatively affect everyone. Naturally, he became more prompt with time, played his part better and even encouraged others to be more responsible. Without this experience, he would still have been irresponsible.
In addition, when young people participate in volunteering, it can contribute to an increase in their overall happiness. After a long day for study, helping others gives them a chance to experience something different from what they would do in their usual routine. A new experience tends to prevent them from feeling bored in life. For instance, when my sister was in middle school, she often felt depressed thinking that her life became an exhausting routine. To survive in a competitive world, she spent the whole day studying all academic subjects, hoping that she could outdo others. Fortunately, she was able to deal with such pressure and stress by serving food for the homeless and the poor through the volunteering program. By doing this, she was able to let off some steam. If she had not participated in volunteering, she would not have been able to escape her boring life.
All things considered, I strongly believe that getting pragmatic work experience by having a part-time job or by volunteering is the most helpful way to young people. All in all, the importance of gaining practical experience by working for others or helping others cannot be overestimated in life. |
