▶ Your Answer :
Some people think that learning a specific subject is
more important for people rather than having a wide arrange of knowledge of
lots of subjects, while others believe differently. If I were asked to choose
one, I would say that learning about a number of academic fields is much better
for our lives. There are reasons and examples as follows.
To begin with, diverse knowledge plays an important role
in broadening our perspectives. Since we today live in a global society, we
ought to have various view point. The knowledge of diverse academic discipline
can expose us to the different thoughts, ideas and life styles that we have
never known before. Therefore, we can take a quantum leap in the intellectual
growth and accept diversity in an era of globalization. For example, In order
to earn my credit, I had to register for art class that I had few interest in
for the first time last semester. By taking this course, I could learn about
how to draw and appreciate paintings, history of artists and the change of
painting styles in many periods. As a result, I could know about numerous
things about arts compared to when I had no idea of the arts subject. If I had
not taken the art course, I would have not been able to widen my outlook.
In addition, a lot of knowledge can help us to expand our
social network. In this society, we are not able to live without other people,
but to live together. It is true that focusing on one certain academic subject is
helpful to become an expert of the field. However, we cannot talk about one
area with people who have different interest, thoughts and knowledge. This can
help us to improve our social skills as well as make diverse friends. For
instance, when I was traveling in the United States, I met a lot of people
there and get to them. While traveling, one thing that I felt was that there
are a lot of diverse people living in colorful lives and need to have many
experiences to empathy and understand those people. In this sense, having
knowledge of a merely specialized subject is not helpful for us when living
this world.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that broad experiences
of various academic subjects are more significant than specializing in only one
subject. The reason is that they can broaden their horizons and make friends
easily.
