In
modern society, media coverage, the broadcasting department with governmental
or privatized company, manifests a plethora of influx of information to the
civilization. News media, has become the crux of authority that transports wide
range of articles and current phenomenon. Such medium has controversial debate
concerning with its biasness. Some individual contends, news itself contains
unbiased information. However, regarding with its negative impact on the
society, media does not convey impartial information for the subsequent
reasons.
To begin with, media coverage
manifests distortion to tempt the audience. The aim of news is different
depending on broadcasting company, but essentially, the sole reason is to
garner a plethora of public as much as possible. To attract each individual,
sometimes, the reporter belie audience. Such distorted information could bring
about social turmoil that hinders country to flourish. For instance, few years
ago in Korea, the incident occurred concerning with bovine spongiform
encephalopathy. According to PD notes, broadcasted by MBC, BSE syndrome,
engendered by imported beef from US, could cause a serious disaster on person’s
body. With this information, a lot of people gathered in front of City Hall to
protest. However, the truth was turned out that the illness itself does not
impact negatively on human and people who were presumably dead by this disease
was demised by just cold. The distorted information thus brought social turmoil
that prevent the handling of the society.
Furthermore, depending on the
political party the media is involved in, the information is inclined to
individual’s political preference. In political spectrum, individuals might be
either conservatism or liberalism. The two different political parties have
each norm. Companies belonging to these party exude own thinking on one certain
issue. For example, considering with Sewol incident that was occurred 2014.
Korea, divided by two distinct political parties’ conservatism and progressive,
was perplexed by variety of information on such outcome of tragedy. One party
states the incident was caused by the incompetence of formal president Park,
other party asserts the Sewol incident should not be utilized as political
weapon. With different arguments on the issue, individual civilians could not
believe which information is true. Thus, media coverage does not manifest
unbiased information, as different parties show distinct information.
To conclude, it is true, in certain
extent, that media conveys unbiased information to society as news should be
under true credibility. However, with the matter of distortion and different
political parties within a country, in many ways, broadcasting company proposes
biased information to civilians. Thus, one should definitely aware how to
distinguish the true information among the biased ones. |
