Undoubtedly, book and movie play a significant role in people’s daily lives in many of the places where they work or play. Some people think that watching the film first before reading a book is a better way, while others do not. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that reading a book before watching the movie is the most effective way. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, because reading books takes more time and requires more concentration than watching the movie, it will help them cultivate important qualities needed for success. Reading book requires people to be diligent, passionate, and self-disciplined. When these personal traits are developed, it is likely to bring a better result in life. For example, John, one of my friends, did poorly in school. He got distracted easily, procrastinated, and acted on impulse. However, he has changed gradually after he began to read a book first before watching the movie based on that book. He realized that as he reads the book first, he could understand the movie more easily and assimilate about the backgrounds detailedly. Thanks to his reading a book first, he started to maintain a good behavior by raising his grades in school. He was able to excel all throughout school and received straight A’s in his classes. Without reading a book before watching the movie, he would have fallen behind.
In addition, as reading a book makes people conceive images more abundantly than watching the movie, it can contribute to an increase in their overall happiness. Imagining many things from letters gives them a chance to experience something different from what they would do in their usual routine. A new experience tends to prevent them from feeling bored in life. For instance, when my sister was in high school, she often felt depressed thinking that her life became an exhausting routine. To survive in a competitive world, she spent the whole day studying all academic subjects, hoping that she could outdo others. Fortunately, she was able to deal with such pressure and stress in a safe way by spending her free time reading the ‘Harry Potter’ before watching the movie after school. She got a voracious thrill of imagining heroine characters’ magic and their battle scenes. By doing this, she was able to let off some steam. If she had not read the ‘Harry Potter’ before watching the movie, she would not able to escape her boring life.
All things considered, I strongly believe that reading a book before watching the movie is a better way than watching the movie first. All in all, the importance of reading a book cannot be overestimated. |
