▶ Your Answer :
It is questionable which is happier than
the other one, to possess or not to possess. It depends on the person, but I
believe not to possess is happier than the other one. It is because the
possession is equal to an obsession and there are other sources of happiness.
To begin with, possession means an
obsession. If you have a certain thing in your hand, you have to concern about
it to not to lose it. It needs your constant concerning and you will end up
with obsessed about it. You can take the Buddhist monk, Bob Jeong’s idea about
possession for example. He asserted that intention to keep things in your
boundary would bring you never-ending chaos in your mind. He conceptualized the
idea called ‘non-possession’ and contended that if you reach that idea, it will
bring peace in your mind.
On top of that, happiness can come from
other factors, not only from money, fancy house or such material wealth. There
are some people who feel happiness from self-realization or devoting to the
certain value he or she admires. For example, my friend’s parents are kind of
millionaires. They earned a lot of money on their own, but live in a humble
lifestyle. I have not seen them waste money on something just they desire, but
they spend it to help people who suffer from hunger around the world. My friend
told me that her parents said they feel happier when they volunteer and help
people who are suffering than using money.
To sum up, I think possession’s another
name is an obsession and you can be happy not only by having something in your
hands. In this regard, I agree with the statement, the fewer passion you are,
the happier you will be. |
