▶ Your Answer : Some people think that
student just take classes related to their major. However, I disagree with the
idea that university should not require students to take basic science classes
for the following reasons. First, university should teach variety knowledge.
Second, Science classes will be helpful for students’ career.
First of all, well-balanced
education should be given to students. What this means is that besides specific
knowledge, universities should teach basic science such as physics, chemistry,
and biology for students to survive in the 4th industry generation.
The opportunities to learn these important things can be given by teaching
these subjects. According to a survey done by JYP institute of education, a
majority of successful leaders said that they were inspired by studying basic
science. This is due to the fact that they could broaden their way of thinking
and learned to understand the modern technology and others through studying science.
This is clearly shows that teaching those subjects at schools is a way to
provide well-balanced education.
On top of that, students’
future careers can benefit from learning science. To be specific, by taking
basic science classes, students are exposed to a variety of knowledge. With the
knowledge, young students can discover their talent or interest, which can be
beneficial for them when they look for a new career path, or work in their own
field. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. When I was majoring in
music in university, I didn’t want to learn anything except music because I
knew what I wanted. However, my university required every student to take a
general subject, so I reluctantly chose physics. At first, it was boring but as
time went by, I was interested in the subject more and more. I decided to minor
in physics and now, I’m a high school physics teacher. If I had not learned the
general subject at that time, I could not have my current career.
In conclusion, they should receive
well-balanced education, and well-balanced education can give students benefit.
In this regard, I strongly insist that university should ask students to take
science classes.
