▶ Your Answer :
Some people think
that schools should spend money more on arts or volunteering. However, I
disagree with the idea that supporting sports should be less than the arts or
volunteering for the following two reasons. First, sports are good for the
body. Second, sports can be more beneficial economically than in the other two
activities.
First of all,
sports activities play an important role in promoting students’ physical
health. That is, students can reap numerous health benefits from participating
in sports activities. This is very important in today’s
society because more and more people are unhealthy due to their sedentary
lifestyles. Also, they can do their school works more efficiently by playing
sports. Let me bring my cousin’s story as an example.
My cousin used to sit in front of the computer all day and never did any
physical activity. Inevitably, he gained a lot of weight and began to
develop health problems as a result of his inactive lifestyle. He decided
to join a tennis club on campus and began laying three times a week. Before
long, he lost most of the weight he had gained, and he felt much better. If the
university had not invested in tennis facilities, then the club would not have
been there for my cousin to use.
Secondly, sports are very profitable and are a good source
of revenue in today’s precarious economic times. Schools across the nation are
facing a funding crisis, but they still need to build academic facilities and
dormitories for new students. University sports are a huge business in my
country and are even more popular than professional sports in a lot of areas.
Therefore, athletic teams can generate money for their schools through
corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, licensing and broadcast agreements. These
profits can then be used to pay for academic facilities, including libraries. However,
since art activities, such as opening art museums in schools and art
competitions, and volunteering activities are not monetary gain compared to
sports. According to a study done by JYP University, Sports, especially football
games, make schools earn 30 million dollars per year. This is due to the fact
that football is one of the most popular sports games in the US. Also, since
their school teams are broadcasted by TV, the schools can advertise indirectly.
However, the study shows that art activities give schools profit only a few thousand
dollars per year. Also, there is almost no profit in Volunteering. It would not have been able to afford the
construction without that revenue.
In
conclusion, sports activities can be helpful for students’ health. Also, that is,
sports have more advantages than the other two activities. In this
regard, I disagree with the idea that schools should support arts or
volunteering more than sports |
