Some
people say that higher education institutes must give their students job
preparing program for their future workplace. However, I strongly believe that
doing a job preparing is not colleges and universities’ first place duty at
all. Because the institutes’ purpose is to make their students study more
deeply, and colleges and universities are place for students to have diverse
experiences, not job preparing. To
be specific, a very fundamental purpose of colleges and universities is giving
their students deep and challengeable academic experience. In the current
world, people are required to have a wide variety of knowledge rather than prepare
solely for future job. The institutes such as colleges and universities
technically exist for this reason. These make students study harder and be an
‘elites’ in our society. For example, there was a survey conducted by a group
of higher education majors, with 200 citizens as respondents. The purpose of
this survey was to define what citizens regard university as. Results shows
that most respondents replied that university is a place for learning and
studying to make our society even better, not just job preparing span. This
survey proved that higher education institutes should be academic
organizations. Second
reason is that colleges and universities’ students should have diverse and
unexpected experiences when they are in that status, students. Experience is
one of the most essential factors to succeed in this world. Imagine students
only prepare seeking job during their university life. Their views will be so
narrow when dealing with lots, diverse trouble. By attaining a myriad of
experiences, students can not only gain diverse experience but also broaden
their horizons of the world as well, before entering the labor market. For
instance, when I was freshman in university, I was ‘not-study-hard’ type of
student. Back then, all I did was debating about not important issue to get a
job such as contemporary poem or important role of current world’s musicians
all day long. Also, I never went to my class at all and got two F degree. But
when I became senior, I realized importance of studying and learning in
academic institutes and studied as hard as I could. When I graduated my
university, I surprised of how my diverse and exciting experience affects my
inner growth. I felt I was becoming totally different person compared to my
fresh man year.
To
sum up, there are some reasons that colleges and universities don’t have to do
a job preparing for their students. First reason is that job preparing is not
their first duty, second reason is that students should have diverse experience
when they are students. Therefore, I assuredly disagree with that higher
education institutes must do a better job preparing students for their
workplace. |
