The reading contends that a rare weather phenomenon known as red rain is happened in the summer of 2001 in the India state of Kerala because of three theories for this event. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument.
First of all, the lecturer points that there is a problem in the statement that the rad rain is happened because of the blood of bats. This is attributed to the fact that this argument is impossible because the wings and bones were not founded in the region. This refutes the reading passage's idea that a thunderstorm or meteor bust resulted in a lot of bat blood being dispersed through the atmosphere.
Moreover, in the lecture, the point is made that it is plausible the red rain resulted from a volcanic eruption, but disproved. This is because there did not happen the red rain in Vietnamese, Thailand, and even in the Philippines where the volcano is located in. This casts doubt on the author's view that as the dust from the Philippines' volcano mixed with the rain and fall, causing it to appear red.
The final reason made by the lecturer is that it is not possible for chemical pollution to be released from local factories. It is obvious that there are only a few factories in Indian state of Kerala. This is different from the passage's point that some of the pollutants from the factories combined with moisture and they turned red, creating the red rain in Kerala.
