Some people might think that the country is
a better place for children to grow up than a large city is. However I disagree
with this statement for two reasons which I will explore in the following
essay.
To begin with, children have to get every
possible opportunities they can get. In a large city, there are many convenient
facilities. Also with better transportation system, children can go anywhere
safely compare to the country. To be specific, children in a large city can go
to a famous museum and or galleries for an educational sightseeing during
weekend. With just one subway or bus ride, they can nearly get anywhere they
want. I would like to give an example of my own experience. I now am living in
a capital city of South Korea. But in the past, I lived outside from the city
and everytime we had to go somewhere, I needed my parents to go there together
because it was too far for me to go there alone. After we moved into the city
when I was 10 years old, I could go anywhere I want by bus or by subway ride.
It was so convenient and amazing to go exhibitions of famous artists or attend
to autograph sessions with famous writers in a huge book shop.
Secondly, I think that since competition
among children is getting fierce, it is rather start to let children feel that
atmosphere from young age is inevitable. Children who lived their whole life
and grew up in the country might not well adjust to the competition system and
might feel threatened by that. However, children grown up in competitive
environment, would not feel threatened and would better perform at their
school. To be specific, when I was little before moving into the city, I never
learned English, however when I moved to the city, everyone in my class knew
how to speak in English. One day, at school, I did not know how to speak carrot
in English, but my peer right next to me knew how to pronounce it correctly. At
that time, I felt very shamed, threatened and overwhelmed. However I was 10
years old and now I am still living in Seoul ever since that time. But imagine
a child who lived whole life in the country with no competitive educational
system. It would be quite difficult for them to adapt to a competitive
educational atmosphere in a large city.
In conclusion, for these two reasons, I
think it is better for children to live in a large city than live in the
country. |
