In Korea, students could not choose whether they are going to take art and music classes in secondary school. They must attend the classes no matter how much other works they have or no matter what they really want to do. Even though the classes have some benefits such as promoting creativity, classes should not be required to take. This is because the classes do not give practical knowledge and it might not fit to student's aptitude. Music and art classes do not provide students with much knowledge that is needed in real world. It is true that students could relieve their stress as well as get more knowledge as to art and music, and the time when they were composed. However, it has no pragmatic means as information about art and music neither helps students to be successful nor lead them to be knowledgeable. It might be more useful for students to spend time on other subjects. To be more specific, if students use time on Economics rather than attending art and music classes, students might have more chances to be successful. They would not only learn how to control their budget amid financial crisis, which might be particularly important today, but also learn how to do stocks, funds and understand economic situations of countries. Students would be able to gain practical skills that could be actually applied in the real world. Therefore, as art and music classes do not give practical knowledge, the classes should not be required. Moreover, there are a number students whose aptitude does not fit into art and music. In other words, many students do not want to attend the classes as they do not enjoy the classes. According to the study conducted by Education department of Korean government, it has been revealed that almost 40 percent of Korean students do not want to have music and art classes. Among those, roughly 60 percent of them said attending the classes has no more meaning than wasting time as they do not enjoy singing a song, painting pictures or learn about are and music history. Then, if school requires students who could not get interest from the classes to attend it, they would learn nothing. They even might feel frustration and irritation. Hence, school should not lead all students to take music and are classes. In conclusion, school should not require all students to take art and music classes as they could not gain pragmatic knowledge and students might not have interest on the classes. Although there are some advantages to attend the classes, it seems the disadvantages outweigh the benefits | |
