감사합니다......he's having a hard time and I just wanted to see whether his experience is unique or commonplace at Korean companies. It would be great to get some input and advice from people who've worked in companies in Korea. I would be really grateful...thank you very much...
My cousin said he was surprised to find at his company a lot of antagonism between people from the 전라도 region and those from the 경상도 region. Our families are from 경상도, and he said that was one of the first things -- along with where he went to school and what his parents do -- that his coworkers asked about when he started working. And he said his supervisor's family is from 전라도 and apparently the supervisor had been treated unfairly by someone from 경상도 in his past, and now the guy is taking out his revenge on my cousin and treats my cousin very badly because our family is from 경상도.
He also said there are coworkers at his workplace who wanted to go to graduate school in the U.S. but couldn't, and that they seem to have a chip on their shoulders and that they seem determined to prove that they are better than my cousin -- by constantly berating and criticizing my cousin and publicly humiliating and pointing out to everyone any mistake he makes. My cousin also said a lot of people at his company seem to focus on who they have to be nice to and who they can treat badly based on their family background and whether they have connections, etc.
My cousin is a nice, decent guy and not at all a stuck-up. He smiles to everyone he meets and is very respectful. And he said he always wanted to go back to Korea and work there but that his work experience so far has been rather sobering.
I don't know; is he just not adjusting to the corporate life in Korea? Is he just working at a bad company and things are better at other companies, or is his experience found in other companies too? Is there something my cousin is not understanding? He's thinking about trying to find a different job.
