Some people
might say that all high school students should learn basic economics. However, in
my opinion, it is not essential to teach basic economics in high school for two
reasons. First, students have so many things to do that they cannot manage to study
economics. Second, they have no obstacles to living even if they do (현재 시제가 더 자연스럽습니다) not learn
economics in high school.
To begin with,
high school students are too busy to learn economics. In fact, economics is not
easy to completely understand even if it is ‘basic’. In addition, students have a
lot of other subjects to study including Mathematics, English and Science and
it is undeniable that these subjects are time consuming. Thus they cannot
afford to invest time in studying economics. For example, there was a survey
conducted by a group of education majors, with 200 high school students as
respondents. The purpose of the survey was to find out their preference among
the required subjects of economics and history. The (올바른 관사) majority of respondents
selected ‘History’ and the reason why they picked History was merely simple. An
overwhelming 85% responded that economics is difficult.
On top of that,
economics is not very demanding to live in contemporary society. Of course someone
might say that economics is fundamental to living modern life, however, I think
we just can learn economics after we graduate from high school if we really
need it. It is never late to study economics in college and it is more
efficient since they ‘select’ by themselves to learn that course. For instance,
my father did not go to high school since his family had a monetary
problem. Naturally, he did not have any opportunity to learn economics from
high school. All he did was to (to부정사 용법) read the newspaper every day. However, now he is a ‘master
of finance’ not only in my house, but also in his company. He is very good at making
money.
To sum up, high
school students have no room to study difficult economics and it is not necessity
to live one’s life. In this regard, I firmly believe that basic economics is
not worth being mandatory to high school students.
