Some people might think that children should
use their time to play and study rather than to do household chores. However, in
my perspective, children should experience doing household chores when they are
young. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, when children do household chores
by themselves, they could feel a great sense of responsibility, leading them to
be mature. Household chores seem to be tedious and humble tasks, but they require
to be diligent everyday, to be meticulous on tasks, and to be self-disciplined with
regular basis. When these personal traits are developed while conducting household
chores, children are likely to become mature so that they could be successful in
their lives. For instance, I read an article from Stanford Business School about
correlation between household chores and children’s maturity level. What researchers
found was intriguing. Researchers found that children who clean their own room and
clean their own dishes are so independent that they could do their school work without
leaning to others. This independancy inspires them to study efficiently and effectively,
compensating the time they spend on chores.
In addition, performing household chores encourages
children to understand their parents. Generally speaking, children have no idea
what their parents sacrifice for them, so they take parents’ effort for granted.
On the other hand, when children regard household chores as their to-do lists, they
could acknowledge the everyday efforts of parents, contributing them to appreciate
to their parents. For example, when I was in elementary school, my parents got a
call that grandmother was in an emergency situation. Parents did not have any options
without leaving me along, so I should do all household chores for three days. While
I did a wide array of chores, such as mopping, washing dishes, or vacuuming, I gradually
realized that there are hundreds of tasks that my parents have done for me. After
they came back, I expressed my feeling to my parents, contributing to feel a strong
sense of linkage with them.
All things considered, household chores should
be a mandatory for children to make them to be mature and to understand their parents.
It is no doubt that household chores are more imperative for children than studying
or playing. |
