▶ Your Answer :
I agree with the statement that teacher’s
performance should be evaluated by students rather than by other teachers.
First, evaluation by students helps teachers to improve their work
performance. Evaluation by students allows teachers to find easily their
drawbacks in teaching than evaluation by teachers. Teachers are likely to
develop their teaching ability by correcting their flaw. For example, when I was
a high school students, it was difficult for me to understand the history
course. Interest in history decreased over time, and I’d like to quit the
studying. Someday, there was a chance to evaluate the history course, I
honestly described the reason why I’d like to stop studying history course.
Fortunately after this evaluation, history course teachers tried to make
students understand history easily by showing various pictures, videos and
explaining enigmatic terms easily. I attended the course actively and started
having interest again. This example shows that evaluation by teachers can be a
good chance for teachers to improve their teaching skills.
Second, the purpose of teacher’s
performance is to teach the students. Evaluation by students enables for
teachers to assess actually whether the learning to be achieved really takes
place or not. Real evaluation by students contributes to the improvement of
student’s academic performance in the long run. For example, the recent study
conducted by Harvard University in 2007, a huge difference was shown between
the two groups of high school students ; One consisted of students who attend a
survey which evaluates the teachers, the other was made up of those who did not
attend a survey. Many researchers found that the former is likely to have a
higher score on their SAT than the latter. The research reported that in
particular, the first group showed effective communication with their teachers
and higher concentration on their course. On the other hand, the second group
is likely to get distracted easily. This implies that evaluation by students
plays an important role in learning.
All things considered, I agree with the
statement for the reason I mentioned above. |
