The topic of new discoveries in science is always intriguing. Some people deem that some significant scientific discoveries should be kept as secrets private properties of the discoverer. However, I contend that the discoveries should be shared among other scientists all over the world for the following reasons.
First of all, if limited people are aware of a new scientific information, it can be misused or overused as a means of making money. This is because, as the world is progressing more quickly than ever, the value of important information has largely increased and begun to compared with the value of money. Therefore, the high valued information is commonly sold and bought in a tremendous amount of money. The problem that comes with this is that the scientific information is possibly enjoyed by only the rich people, otherwise it could have been used for helping more people in need, reducing the gap between rich and poor. Therefore, people should share new scientific discoveries to relieve the tension between rich and poor, forming the contributing to a well balanced world. According to a survey conducted by Seoul National University of Korea, most of the surveyed people responded that it is unfair that only the people with much money get the valuable information such as the ones about stock market or health, that ought to be equally informed to the people all over the world. (‘조사 해보았더니 많은 사람이 그렇게 생각한다’는 말은 논리적인 근거가 되지 못합니다.) Therefore, to build a harmonized world that guarantee the equal rights for all people, the information should be transparently opened to many people.
Furthermore, by sharing the new facts and collecting diverse ideas that can help to improve the discoveries from all over the world, scientists can get the further development more effectively. As people face higher competitions, time efficiency is the key to success nowadays. In this aspect, by receiving diverse opinions about or knowledge focusing on related to the discovery, scientists can develop and improve the quality of the discovery their discovery further, multiplying the applications. For example, when I was in university, I was studying material sciences. As a topic for my graduation paper, I researched a flexible material that can be used in a semiconductor, ultimately realizing a flexible laptop. Fortunately, I could get a knowledge on how to make a highly flexible metal by mixing some ingredients. I was a bit shy to inform about this to other students. However, my professor continuously persuaded me to have a presentation on this discovery and let others know the method. After all, I had the presentation and the method to make flexible metal was used in so many different areas such as TV television displays, medical usages and automobiles. If it had not been for the presentation, the method was only used for the laptop. In addition, as other students accepted the technology, they raised the flexibility by collaborating their own skills. Like this, people can pave a more convenient way to the better success by sharing scientific discoveries and trying diverse collaborations.
To sum up, I believe that my explanations above well proved the advantages from sharing scientific discoveries. The significance of sharing and improving new scientific discoveries among many people cannot be overemphasized.
