▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, learning at an early age
plays a vital role in people’s daily lives where they work or play. Some people
think that playing video games is helpful to improve children’s interest in
learning, while others do not. Both sides may have their own reasons to support
their views. If I had to choose one, I would say that video games negatively
affect children’s learnings. There are several reasons as follows.
To
begin with, when children play video games, they fall behind in their academic
performances in the future. Personal traits established from an early age are
difficult to change, as the saying goes, “Old habits die hard.” Once they have
bad habits, they are likely to bring a negative result in their lives. For
example, I have a younger brother who really loved a video game called
‘Tongtong’ which contents were all in English. His mom let him to play the game
every day because she thought it was beneficial to learn English. Otherwise, I
loved reading books so that I read them all day while my brother was playing
the game. After we entered school, our academic performances were clearly
different. I learned how to read the text efficiently by reading books and was
able to focus on studying, while my brother could not concentrate on them.
Thanks to my reading habits, I was able to get straight A’s in class. If I had
not obtained such habits, I would not have been to improve my academic
performance.
In
addition, enjoying video games in people’s early age is harmful to their
physical health which is the most important thing to learn. Looking at the
screen and maintaining the same posture for a long time have a bad influence on
their eyesight. This tends to prevent them from concentrating in class. For
instance, Susan, one of my friends, used to play the games related to science.
She enjoyed spending time with playing the games because the contents in them
made her daily life fun and joyful. She lived a sedentary life playing them,
watching the TV screen with bad postures. After several months, she started her
elementary school life and felt that her eyesight got worse than the past,
feeling that she could not recognize the texts on the blackboard. She had
difficulties with focusing on class and got easily distracted because of her
eyesight. She went to a doctor to check it and realized that enjoying the games
too much could negatively affect her eye health. If she had not played video
games, she would not have been deterred from learning.
In
brief, I strongly believe that the disadvantages of spending time with video
games in childhood far outweigh those of the opposite for the reasons I have
mentioned above. All in all, healthy experiences cannot be overestimated in the
pursuit of life.
