▶ Your Answer :
At university, many professors give grades reflected students' attendence rate to their students. They say that attendence at class of certain subject is essential to study the subject. However, I believe that professors should not demand high attendence rate, because educators have to make students to experience more and study themselves.
First, university students should experience a lot of programs off campus, such as volunteer work or sports competition. If they are required attendence at classes, they will not have enough time to participate in the prorams. Therefore, they will miss most profgrams that are expected valuable to obtain experiences. Off campus, students can study and learn much more than on campus by undergoing various episodes directly. For example, my brother prefered taking part in off campus programs to listening to professor's lecture in a classroom. Fortunately, professors who were in charge of the class taken by him did not require to attendent classes to all their students. My brother was able to participate in off campus programs what he was interested in throughout his school years. As a result of these experiences, he got a great job that all graduates wanted to get because the company evaluated him to be active and sociable person based on the experiences.
Second, students have to spare much time to study themselves. When they try to attend all classes, their time for selfstudy decrease inevitably. Professors need to provide option of how many time they will be present for their students. A study shows that students who have no requiring of attendence at a class get better test score than the others who have not. In the study, researcher set up two different groups. One group involved students who do not have any restriction of attendence for one subject, while another group contained students who was demanded to attend all classes of the same subject. Consequently, the former group students got 10% higher score in average than the latter group.
In short, university students determine whether they will attend classes by themselves. The students should focus on accumulating their experiences and spending their time to study by themselves. |
