When I was about 8 years old, I subscribed for children science magazine called “Science Man” I specifically remember the article about “Ubiquitous Era”. The term refers to the time where people can access the information they need anytime, anywhere. I think that such era has come. People never get their hands off their phone, busy downloading through the wi-fi network. In my opinion, such phenomenon has affected our lives negatively, both personally and socially.
First, it is vague to say that the world has become a better place to live due to technology, because it affects people’s health and behavior in a bad way. For example, people are not as active as the old days, since there are so many entertainments available around us. In recent days, it became possible for a person to watch movies in home. This actually was the reason why I was getting fatter; I reduced 5kg by leaving the television off for a few weeks and tried something else in the meantime. In some other cases, people become more sharp and hysteric. Some of my friends were annoyed whenever they were interrupted when they were playing games with their iPod.
Second, considering the information divide, I wonder why people say the world has become better via technology. While a person with the latest device is envied, a person that still uses old technology is considered to be behind the times. I had been using a cellphone from Samsung which worked perfectly fine. My friends made fun of me because I used that phone for three and a half years, and eventually, I bought an iPhone. However, I prefer my old cellphone which is actually working better than my current cellphone. Cases like mine shows that technology causes people who use old technology alienated.
In conclusion, technology did not make the world a better place to live. It has a bad effect on human nature and leaves people with old technology behind. |
