▶ Your Answer :
We cannot decide easily what is more important between knowledge from an experience and knowledge from a book. I think that it all depends. However, in my view, what is definite is that a type of knowledge obtained from an experience is better than knowledge from a book because most valuable things are gained from a variety of experiences, not from books. Also, the reason why knowledge is more important is because those kinds of knowledge that people have learned through several experiences in their life is more directional and clearly embedded in human’s mind.
It is not easy for us to conclude that knowledge from books is as valuable as knowledge from an experience since a lot of knowledge that people have learned from books is pretty secondary and deficient of reality. For instance, we can learn a lot about love, friendship, and peace from numerous books but those kinds of things are not realistic and cannot appeal to our hearts. Rather, we can learn a lot about them through face-to-face experiences. In other words, they can be obtained from a date with the other sex, an interaction with friends, and voluntary activities.
Also, things from experiences can be implanted easily in human’s heart and brain since those kinds of things are more believable and realistic than those of knowledge from books. For example, we might have learned a lot about Great Depression in many economics textbooks and we already know an extreme rate of unemployment, a very harsh inflation, and a high criminal rate at that time. However, These kinds of knowledge is just abstract and unambiguous because we have never experienced directly. In contrast, we already experienced economic crisis, so-called Global Subprime mortgage in 2008, which had shown realistic adversities to us.
In conclusion, I think that it is not reasonable which kinds of knowledge is more important and better because two kinds of knowledge all has its advantages. Therefore, they should be interacted each other. However, what is clear is that knowledge from experience is more important and better than that from books because experience-based knowledge is more directional and realistic to us.
