Some people think that printed books will be replaced by electronic books in 20 years as the technology is developing rapidly. However, I believe that printed books will remain after 20 years because there are still many people in the world that prefer physical books to electronic books. Besides, printed books are cheaper and have historical values.
To begin with, many people in the world still like reading printed books rather than electronic ones. People like real books because they can make marks or write notes about what they think about the text on pages. Another main reason why people don’t like electronic books is that the use of electronic devices is limited. The E-book device will require battery, which cannot be permanent, and some public places ban the use of electronic devices. In the airplanes, for instance, people are not allowed to use electronic devices when taking off or landing. Therefore, people using E-books can’t read during that 10 or 15 minutes. However, people with printed books can use their books no matter what.
Furthermore, to keep using printed books are more practical and cost-effective. Electronic books are bound to break and costs more to produce because they require high technologies. And it is not free to download an electronic version of a book, so it would cost a lot to pay for the device and all the books we need. What’s more is that there are already so many printed books existing, so it will be very difficult to replace them all. For example, there are billions of schools in the world, and each average school possesses thousands of books. Then, there will be zillions of school-related books, and school books are only a small portion of books. There are many other types of books that are not textbooks or classroom related ones. Therefore, it is a very idealistic, but not practical, plan to replace printed books with electronic books.
To sum up, many people prefer printed books to electronic books, and printed books are more cost-effective. Therefore, it is for sure that printed books will not be replaced by electronic ones in 20 years, or even in 50 years. |
