We all work or will work in our jobs with many different kinds of people, in your opinion, what are some important characteristics of a co-worker (someone you work closely with)? Use reasons and specific examples to explain why these characteristics are important. |
When I was on an important project two years ago in my computer programming class, I worked with three other students to complete it in a group. While working on it, I’ve sometimes got annoyed by and tired of the other members of my group, but anyway we did good job and got a great result. Through this experience, I not only improved my programming skills but also got to know some important things required when working with others. I think that, to be a good co-worker, the important things, which I realized, has to be set up to ourselves: responsibility and respect. Above of all, a strong sense of responsibility is necessary in cooperation. When a work is given to people as a group activity, they usually divide the work into several certain parts, and each of them gets their own job to achieve. From that time, doing each of their given work within a given time is the most important mission, and, to make it, they should work hard with the responsibility. For example, during the time of the project mentioned above, one of my group members hasn’t carried out her part in proper time. Because of that, the following plans which was supposed to be performed after the time came to be delayed, and we began having some troubles and complaining. She was lack of obligation and just depended on others with the thought that others would do her duty if she didn’t do it. Therefore, it is important to have a responsibility to achieve a goal effectively working with others. The other thing is respect. It is natural to have some conflicts, arguments, and other problems between co-workers because all people are have different sense of values. If you just persist in your own thought and don’t try to compromise on having differences between opinions with others, the solution will not coming up, the situation will get worse and worse, and most destructively all the other people working with you will get tired of you. We should know other’s opinions are as important as ours and try to listen to them with respect for them. Someone’s being different with you doesn’t mean it would be bad or strange but just means different, distinct. There are many other important things we should hold while doing joint work such as patience, effort, etc. However, a great sense of responsibility and respect for others come first to me as the most needed for those reasons as aforesaid. To obtain a good results from a work, to socialize well in a group, and to develop ourselves better, those two things are the most essential. |
