It is unrealistic for people to work at the same company for their entire ilves Agree? Disagree? |
Decades ago, it was considered virtuous for people to work at the same company for a long time like SONY. Many other Japanese companies also emulated this trend. However, as you have seen, our society is changing so rapidly that this is not the case any more.
First, working for a company for a lifetime is not possible because a company can not survive for such a long time without changing itself. That means the company can not guarantee the worker's lifelong hiring. For example, in the early 1900s, typewriters were popular job in the US, but with the development of computer, the job began to disapper. Therefore, it is evident that there can not be permanent job.
Second, because of deveopment of our society, there are various chances to promote themselves and to realize thier dreams through chaning the workplace. For example, I worked for an insurance marketing company for a a couple of years, but now I am teaching English. Considering all the elements that constitute my gratigication, I think the current job is far better than the previous one and I made a right choice. Obviously, it is not confined to my situation. How can people insist a single job if they have more chances to realize their dreams? Therefore,in a modern society, the more our socciety develops, the more likely we are to change the job.
Third, lifelong employment itself is not beneficial to a company, because the elderly employees tend to be less productive than the newcomers. For example, although the experienced workers have sometimes many advangages over the newcomers, they are likely to be self-satisfied in their current postitons and less active in changing the current situation, leading to weakening competitiveness as a whole.
To sum up, it is not so much that experienced workes from lifelong employment are not useful anymore. However, because we are living in amid of the current rapid development of technology, it is unaviodabe that we have to live under immense pressure such as swift adapation, rapid change and obsorbing technology faster than others. As such, it is obvious that these enviroment will be unfavorable to lifelong employment. |
