In this era of rapid social and technological change, leading to the greater complexity, it is controversial whether learning ideas and concepts are easier than facts. Having been experiencing remarkable achievements in all aspects of technology, some people feel more comfortable with learning concepts or hypotheses rather than facts. So, is this really true? Personally I am of the opinion that it is not easier to understand concepts than facts. While I understand the possible rationales for the opposite arguments, I think we must remember that ideas and concepts are not fully proven theories, and concepts are generally too much sophisticated to be understood by public
To begin with, the world is progressing into an era which is scientifically, technically and artistically much more advanced than what is was in the past. This is a clear indication of that today’s people are exposed to numerous information. Since they have access to such a level of information, it is reasonable that some of information is not fully demonstrated idea. This means that these suppositions have failed to authenticate their validities. Big Bang Theory is a classic example of this. Many scientists have been trying to demonstrate the idea, however, failed to show neither physical evidence nor scientific evidence about the phenomenon. If this idea had sufficient logics in itself, it would sure be regarded as a fact. And how people can possibly learn about those unproven theories when the vast majority of people struggle at learning already-existing definitions? In this respect, it becomes clear that ambiguous statements should not be encouraged for people to learn unless they are proven by scientists.
In addition, many of suppositions are too sophisticated to be grasped by public. From my own personal experience, I once tried to invest small portion of my salary to stock market. I visited a few investment corporations, expecting to acquire some useful advices. However, while I was talking with one of staffs of the company, I was not able to understand any of his talks. He has tried to explain the most fundamental terms and concepts of stock market, however, has failed to make me understand about them. I felt sorry for him, but simultaneously, I was very surprised by the fact that those concepts and ideas are too much complex for the people who do not have proper knowledge about economy. I am certain that most of people would have experienced the very same feeling under such circumstance.
Simply put, there are reasons for and against learning about concepts and hypotheses, however, the arguments for hold a lot more water. When we consider the factors such as its difficulty to be learned and its complexity to the public, it is clear that people will have to go through an arduous time to learn them.
