▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly,
news provides valuable information in our daily lives. Some people think that
people should seek out information from a variety of news sources to be
well-informed, while others do not. Both sides may have their own reasons to
support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that various
sources of news contribute to making well-rounded citizens. There are several
reasons as follows.
To begin with,
each news source implies different points of views. Although media is supposed
to deliver neutral information, it is also true that each holds different
positions by which a certain issue can be described with different emphasizing
points. In this sense, to be well-informed, individuals need to obtain
information from various sources. For example, when a national project to
restore main rivers in South Korea was planned in 2017, I found out that the
issue was presented with different words depending on newspapers' positions.
One newspaper said that the project would cost too much money compared to the
expected result, and the evidence was the failure of previous environmental
projects. On the other hand, the other newspaper provided details about the
expected benefits of the project based on the change of conditions. Both
offered people factual information, but their different positions made them
give different details.
On top of that,
people can be misinformed when they rely on a single source. This is because
every source can make mistakes. If one merely seeks out information from one
source, there will be no chance of correcting the mistakes made by the source.
In this regard, people should refer to different sources to acquire accurate
information. For instance, according to a study conducted by Tokyo University
in 2017, more than 80 percent of the respondents reported that they saw
wrongly-delivered information. Among them, 30 percent said that they missed the
right information since they did not look up other related articles. On the
other hand, the rest who was accustomed to reading articles from different
newspapers was able to get the right details. This indicates that different
sources of news are crucial for people to know exactly about current issues.
All things
considered, I strongly believe that various sources of news make people more
well-informed.
