Environment has been spotlighted more recently as
the side effects of rapid development have been on the surface. It is a
worldwide issue to find the most effective and efficient method to recover and prevent
any further damages on environment. It is a complex process to select a
solution considering pragmatic questions such as involvement of stakeholders
and financial investment. In realistic perspective, community and government
regulations would be the most effective with following reasons: 1) The
immediate results will be observed when penalty from government is involved for
regulation 2) It has a long term outcomes as government and community campaigns
for regulations raise the awareness about the significance of environment
protection and be reflected on human attitudes.
To begin with, government regulation usually
involves the financial penalty if it’s an unlawful act and it has a great power
to regulate people’s behaviors, and this can change the results immediately.
The major cause of environment destruction is human activities. If the actual
culprits are not controlled then the core problem cannot be resolved. This can
be carried out successfully by the powerful organization; government. They have
jurisdiction modify the law according to the problems. For example, in
Singapore, passengers are not allowed to bring any foods and drinks on public
transportation to maintain clean condition of the transportation; no garbage
made from them. The government fine of having one drink can be up to $1000. It
may seem harsh and extreme but it has been very successful. This led Singapore
to become famous for cleanest Asia countries and the public possess mature
attitudes towards environment such as recycling habits and no garbage on the
street. Hence, it is very productive when the government regulates human
activities.
Moreover, the campaigns from government to the
public have a power to raise the awareness in general about the environment protection.
It is absolutely true that there are many small habits can impact hugely to defend
environment from destroy. However, it is almost impossible to regulate every
little habit of people, so providing the initiative is essential. The public
needs to realize the issue and change their habits with their will and the result
will be out of imagination. For example, many countries emphasized about global
warming and did myriad of campaigns such as polar bears massacre due to
increased temperature. This message had a great impact and successfully
delivered to the public and encouraged them to reduce the plastic use. It was
reflected on their daily habits such as using tumblers instead of coffee cups. Even
after several years, this has been expanded to eliminate straws use from many
stores. Campaigns by the government have a huge influence on the public and it
does change the results. Thus, government level of regulation to protect
environment would be a great decision in long term perspective as well.
To conclude, there was a misconception that people
treated themselves separately from the environment, but humans are part of the environment.
There are various solutions to fix environmental problems, but the most
efficient method would be involvement of government regulation. It can regulate
the public effectively via fines and can provide second effect which is raising
the awareness of the problems and this will be effective for long period of
time. The authority of the government can remain many changes. It is not easy
to achieve but one crucial message is the sustainability of environment is
sustainability of humans as well. |
