There are several features that good teachers should have. Some might think that parents are qualified as good teachers, but I do not agree with them. The reasons I think they cannot be the best teacher are their bias and lack of special knowledge.
To begin with, most parents cannot evaluate their children objectively. To be a good teacher, one should see the students with objective eyes, since it is the first step to find the best way to teach them. Parents, however, almost naturally has some bias towards their own children. They tend to think of their children in a positive way. Suppose that there is a boy who lacks the ability to speak fluently. To teach him how to speak in a fluent way, the teacher should find out the problem. But this boy's parents would not recognize such a problem with their own child because of the bias. For them, the way the boy speaks would sound just lovely. This is one reason why parents cannot be the best teachers.
Moreover, lack of special knowledge is another reason why it is hard for parents to be the best teachers. To be sure, teachers should know well about what they need to teach to the students. The reason the teachers in the school could become teachers is that they were acknowledged to have enough knowledge in special area. In contrast, parents are not parents because of some qualification. Therefore, it is probable that many parents do not know enough things to teach their children. For example, if a girl wants to learn philosophy, she needs a teacher who is well acquainted with this field of study. Unless her parents are philosophy professors or studied philosophy enough, it is obvious that they are not qualified as her teacher in this area.
To sum up, the reason I cannot agree with the opinion that parents are the best teachers is their lack of objectivity and special knowledge. Just love and care are not only not enough to be good teachers, but also sometimes prevent them from becoming ones. Therefore, there is not enough ground to say that parents are best teachers.
