Q. Visiting museums is the best way to learn about a country –Disagree)
Many people today want to learn about culture of other nations in order to be well-informed in this age of globalization. To meet this demand, many governments have taken steps to extend financial support to museums where people can get information about a country. However, I believe visiting museums is not the best method to get information about a country. It is due to the fact that going to a place is better way to find out about a country and museums have limited and old items on display.
To start with, visiting a country that people want to learn about allows them to acquire more knowledge. This is because people can go through hands-on experiences by seeing a country itself and they tend to remember well what they saw on the spot for a long time. From my experience, I went to a field trip to New York to learn about America’s culture a long time ago. I was able to visit all the buildings, restaurants, and stores and also met a lot of local people in America. I came to realize that old and modern architectural style mix quite well with each other, people like to eat spicy food, and especially women buy tons of high heels in the U.S. In addition, I learned Americans’ fashion styles, popular songs, and political views by communicating with them in person. This firsthand experience was quite worthwhile as I still remember all the things I saw in America as I tasted all the sides of New York even though the trip was 6 years ago. I would not have acquired this knowledge about America if I just had visited museum instead.
Moreover, museums exhibit a small number of items from the past, which makes it hard for people to understand overall current circumstances of a country itself. I visited museum in China to learn about their culture, but I was very disappointed there were only several pieces of artifacts. There were items such as farming, hunting, and cooking tools which were all 2000 years old. I could not learn about what Chinese like to eat, wear, or their present way of life except for their prehistoric lifestyle. This is because life in China has changed significantly for the past centuries.(<-이부분이 좀 걸리는데 뭐 어떻게 고치면 좋을까요?) If I had had a chance to explore various and up-to-date items, I would have understood much about China.
To sum up, going to a museum is not the most desirable way to know about a country since people receive more information about a country through a trip and people can only watch limited and old remains in museum. This is why I choose to travel abroad to know about a country.
