I’d like to argue that the most important period in a person’s life is one’s teens, not one’s twenties. Since the best events such as choosing a career or life partner in our lives are occurred in our twenties, many people are likely to think that one’s twenties are most important. However, we should recognize that there is yesterday before today.
First of all, the chance to establish sturdy fundamental is given to our teens. This is because teenagers are more acceptable than any other period of age. So teenagers are favorable in knowledge acquisition. And the accumulated knowledge from our teens could bring us benefits when we are about to be adults. To illustrate this point, my eldest brother had taken a high quality of education at an advanced high school, and he entered an eminent university. Now, he got a good job with high reputation and enjoys his life. His reputation and satisfaction may are impossible without his knowledgeable fundamental which he attained during his teens.
Second, our life is determined upon the influence of marginal people around us during the teenage period. Related to this idea, several studies show the probability of being criminal of a teenager with violent friends is high. Since teenagers have not enough rational thought, human relationship in teens’ period can be of benefit to them or harmful. To give an example, there were few friends who I was used to hang out with when I was a high school student. All of them were smokers, even though they were minors. Not much later, I could learn how to smoke from them and enjoyed smoking. Now, 7 years later, I’m still smoking and living with feeling regret for that time.
To summarize, the most important period in our life is one’s teens, because teenagers are very acceptable to everything and they experience human relationship with inadequate rational thought. |
