I agree with the statement that universities and high schools should teach students about specific careers and fields instead of general subjects. Today, there are many high schools and universities which handle certain subject and their goal is to make student as professionals in the field. This is because student can be well prepared for their future job by studying what they want and by doing this, universities and schools can anticipate the students' high attention to the class.
To begin with, students can learn professional knowledge about their future career. To be specific, if students study about specific fields they are going to work, students would be more competitive than other students who just studied general subjects. And also they will be more successful in that sphere. Take my friend as example. My friend, Min-su, was hoping to be a soccer player. However, Min-su couldn't get any professional teaching in high school which only teaches general subjects. Only he could get was some tips from soccer community in the school. So he moved to professional soccer school. After he went to the professional school, he could learn from coaches and he is now the member of national soccer team. Without specialized teaching, he wouldn't have been such a great soccer player.
In addition, students can pay more attention to the class they are interested in. This means that, if students study about certain class they are interested in, the rate of participation to the class would be increased and their academic works will be improved. In contrast, if students learn general subjects, they might feel bored when they study not interesting class and the outcome will be bad. According to the study from Seoul Highschool Student Commitee, the absent rates of specialized high schools are 20% lower than those of general private high schools. This means that students are more energetic and active when they learn what they like to study.
To sum up, universities and high schools are better to teach students about specific subjects. This is because students are likely to concentrate on what they are want to learn and this style of teaching can lead successful career life. |
